Our day will start bright and early, as we make our way over to Magic Kingdom at 4:30 am (you read that right!) for the Disney Parks Blog Monstrous Morning Meet Up. Yay!IMAG8480Our meet up will include a Monstrous Donut Bar, fun in the parks and the chance to see a screening of Disney Pixar’s Monster University before it hits theaters in June!

The Monstrous fun doesn’t just stop here in Florida though. West coasters near Disneyland and California Adventure will also have a chance to party in the park for a full 24 hours starting tomorrow at 6 am to Saturday 6 am. Downtown Disney District is also extending their hours if you can’t make it to the parks.

Our original plan was to hit the park after midnight on Friday and try to make it till the park closing at 6 am, then heading over to the Polynesian for some Tonga Toast before heading home. Now that we’re heading to the meet up first thing in the morning on Friday, we’re going to get a room for the night and check in some time in the afternoon for a nap and refresher before heading back for more magic. I don’t think I’ve got it in me to do the full 24 hours. Those of you that can are brave. :D

I’ll be posting live updates as much as possible on twitter @really_michelle and uploading photos to Instagram reallymichelle13. Full post of the festivities should be up over the weekend and on my other blog for all things Disney, Middle of Main Street.

Have a wonderful weekend folks!

Will you be attending the 24 Hour All-Nighter at any of the Disney Parks?

Weekend Recap

It was the first weekend in a while that we didn’t have any big plans. The only thing I truly planned to do was relax and maybe finish up a few projects I’ve had in the works.IMG_20130519_104900I seriously thought I’d have my cabinet makeover done by now. What I thought was going to take me, oh about a week, has taken what seems like forever. Who knew picking out knobs and paint would have me debating like this is some big life decision or something. The project is near completion but it doesn’t give me much hope that my next big furniture project will happen quickly. Lesson learned.

We also headed out to look at phones. We’re in the market for new ones and have debating whether or not to abandon our beloved Android’s for Apple. It doesn’t even pain me to say I was not amazed with the iPhone. Not at all. We both spent time in the store playing around with it and neither of us were impressed. Sorry Apple lovers. We’re sticking with Android and found THE phone.IMAG8443The S4 is definitely larger than what we have now and it is soooooo light. Like a feather, though I’m sure that will be different with a sturdy case. We’ll be getting these in about a month and I can’t wait.

And in some fun news, I was in the right place at the right time when the Disney Parks Blog announced another fun meet-up! I signed up quickly and waited patiently to see if I made the cut and we did. :D Friday will kick off Disney Parks Monstrous Summer 24-Hour All Nighter. Both parks in California and Magic Kingdom here in Florida will be open from 6 am Friday, May 24 to 6 am Saturday, May 25.

The Monstrous morning meet up will start bright dark and early at 4:30 am on Friday and we’ll be seeing an early preview screening of the new Disney Pixar Monsters University before it opens in theaters June 21. Hey, I’m looking forward to the movie but also looking forward to the donut bar. Yes! The Disney Parks Blog has put on some pretty amazing meet-ups. We’ve been so lucky to make it into other meets and I know this one will not disappoint.

To get into the Monsters University mood, I was playing around with some nail colors this weekend and I’m planning on doing a little nail art to wear to the meet. nails1Not sure if we’ll make it a full 24 hours after having to get up so early for the movie screening but you never know!

Now for serious business, I’ve taken the last few days easy and I’m a little scared to say my knee is still not healing. Walking down the stairs is sometimes painful and I’ve been babying this thing for over a week now. This leads me to think it’s probably time to see someone about it. *sigh* So running is definitely on hold for now and of course that is all I want to do right now. Lucky for me the weather is finally warm enough for the pool.IMG_20130516_105741And I won’t just be using this casually. I refuse to sit around and do nothing, so the pool it is!

Struggling With Rest Day Guilt

Am I the only one who struggles with this? Let’s face it, losing weight is a struggle. You know you have to put in some serious sweat sessions to shed pounds and build muscle. I’ve made exercise a priority because it’s a necessity, but when I take just one day off I find myself struggling with guilt.

My Pinterest page has been inundated with photos like this:

I think this is really sending the wrong message. Yes, you do have to work hard and you should keep going when the going gets tough. But you should also recognize that your body can only withstand so much before injury. I didn’t listen and ended up with a shit knee that I’m trying to heal, yet I’m still struggling with slowing down.

So is the guilt I’m struggling with really fear? Fear that I might allow myself so much slack that I become sedentary and gain the weight I’ve lost back or fear that I’ll have to start from scratch again when it comes to running? It’s a real possibility. So perhaps I’m struggling more with rest day fear.

All of this just results in frustration. When I had no motivation to run, I was forcing myself and it wasn’t making me happy. The second I put running on pause because my knee was bugging me, all I wanted to do was run. See? Soooo frustrating! But since I’m all about trying to talk things out and look at things differently, I know I’m on the right track in a few ways.

  • I’m eating healthy. My little 5 Day Focus experiment went well. I shed some pounds, haven’t put them back on, and continued exercising in an effort to find the motivation to keep going.
  • I’m sleeping better, most likely because of a healthier diet and physical activity.
  • My knee is getting better. Some days it feels better than others, but I definitely feel like I’m on the mend.

I just can’t derail now. I have to find a way to let go of this guilt/fear thing and just take a day off and not worry about it. Easier said than done, but I’m going to try to let go.

Do you ever struggle with rest day guilt? Any tips to overcome it?

Fun Weekend

We had a strategy going into the weekend and it couldn’t have worked out better. Early Saturday morning we headed to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I knew Magic Kingdom was going to be really crowded due to Merida’s induction into the Disney Princess Royal Court, so our plan was to avoid it. There would be enough coverage on the festivities all over social media, and I had no desire to fight the crowds for that. Our plan was good, as the Studios didn’t seem crowded to us at all. IMG_20130512_155447We grabbed fastpasses for Toy Story and headed over to the Backlot Tour which was nearly empty. There might have been 20 people on our tram.IMAG8255IMG_20130511_164138My goal was to try to take it easy, as my knee has been giving me some real pain lately. It was nice to take it slow and go at our pace without rushing from attraction to attraction. Make no mistake though, we still logged a lot of walking in and that makes me feel like I’m at least doing something.

We stopped at the Backlot Express for a quick lunch. Coming off a week of eating so healthy, I didn’t want to give up and splurge on a greasy burger. I opted for a grilled turkey and cheese sandwich that was served on a multi-grain ciabatta with arugula and red peppers. I bypassed the fries and went with carrot sticks instead and oh my goodness–this was the most tasty and filling meal I’ve eaten at Disney in a long time. Sometimes the food just does not agree with me and sits in my stomach like a brick, but this tasted so fresh and was so good. And of course I forgot to snap a photo. Oops!

After lunch we headed over to Beauty and the Beast, Live on Stage. In all the years we’ve been visiting the Disney Parks, this was the first time we went to this. I’m not sure why we avoided it for so long. I’ve always seen such long lines to get in and wasn’t sure it would appeal to me. I was wrong. We really lucked out and got a seat close to the stage.IMAG8396The show was very entertaining and seemed to keep the attention of even the youngest visitors. My husband thought it was just ok, but not something he would make a habit of doing each time we visit the parks. I don’t think I would consider it a must do either, but I did enjoy it.

It was pouring rain by the time the show ended and we had pretty much covered all we wanted to do that day at the Studios. As we rushed in the rain, taking cover as we could, we were nearly out of the park when a man decided to stop right in front of me and turn around stepping on my foot. He busted my toe open and it was bleeding everywhere. So now I had a bum knee and a busted toe and I was limping my way out to the car. Of course it stopped raining then. IMG_20130511_164649Sunday I stayed off my feet with the exception for one big splurge.IMG_20130512_152127Cake batter ice cream in a waffle cone. No regrets. Now back to healthy eating. Plus– good news… my knee is already starting to feel better, so I’m going to keep nursing it and see where I’m at in a week.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Five Random Things On Friday

NINE HOURS

I slept for nine full hours and didn’t wake up once. I’ve reached the fifth day of my little experiment, 5 Day Focus, and I feel fantastic. I made this short goal for myself to stay on track by eating healthy, exercising and reducing stress in an attempt to get my focus back. So far it has worked. Now it’s time to keep it going. I’ll be continuing this for another five days because I think working with a shorter time frame works best for me rather than a full week or longer.

Seriously people. I do my nails and it looks like I painted them with my toes.

THE CULPRIT

IMAG8188

I love these shoes but I think they may have contributed to my sore knee. They are so comfortable though, even more comfortable than my other Brooks. I can’t wait to start running again, but I won’t be running again in these.

ANNOYED

Jennifer Aniston and her damn toe ring. First of all, I don’t get the fascination with her. Her hair is so boring and it always looks the same, as with her style. Beige. Black. Beige. Black. Sometimes you might see her in a bold red, but that’s about it. I think one time she wore a floral patterned dress and I thought to myself “who is that?” But back to the toe ring. Jennifer, you are in your 40′s and toe rings went out like what, 20 years ago? Come on now…it’s time to let go of the past. Don’t know what I’m talking about, Google it.

SMILEIMG_20130415_112044It’s Friday. Hope you have a fantastic weekend!
